SCDL offers a number of continuing education courses in different areas

COURSE 1. ANTERIOR AESTHETIC ALIGNMENT

This course teaches general dentists how to incorporate an alignment treatment phase into aesthetic dentistry utilising the state of the art Invisalign system. A thought provoking two day intensive program which features a paradigm shift towards "green" dentistry and an "enamel neutral" edict as espoused by course presenter and AAA creator, Dr David Penn. The course includes modules on the following topics:

DAY 1

Module 1. Aesthetics in the 21st Century

This module examines current thinking in aesthetic dentistry and how a paradigm shift towards less invasive procedures has recently occurred. The concepts of “green dentistry” and an “enamel neutral” edict are introduced which are integral outcomes of the Anterior Aesthetic Alignment process.

Module 2.  Integrating an alignment phase into Aesthetic Dentistry

The ability to deliver to patients  the option to unravel crowded dentitions or to close diastemas without fixed braces is demonstrated using Invisalign aligners. Participants are taught how to classify aesthetically compromised patients with the additional option of a realignment phase and a simplified case selection criteria, along with how Invisalign works .

Module 3.  Alignment 101  (Initial Treatment Phase)

The  fundamental to success with Invisalign is accurate impression taking. Careful consideration is given to reinforce the impression process and radiographic and photographic records. AAA order forms must be completed and submitted with a view to total integration with the aesthetic outcome required.

Module 4. Alignment 102 (Aligner Delivery)

This module teaches participants what to look for in the movement movies emailed prior to aligner manufacture. The dentist then learns about attachments, IPR (interproximal reduction) and how to deliver the aligners to their patients. Dentists use the typodont to perform IPR with a metal strip.

Module 5. Alignment 103 ( Monitoring, Retention and Trouble Shooting)

Monitoring the alignment stage to ensure that the process is tracking well is an essential part of the skills required by the dentist. A thorough understanding of what can go wrong and how to alleviate it is presented here, along with the options for retention (fixed and removable)

Module 6. Case Presentations

Participants are shown a series of cases that have been completed which show a cross section of what can be achieved when the alignment phase is integrated into aesthetic dentistry. This section also helps dentists to assess the likely length of treatment for each case.

Module 7. Ethical Selling and Marketing of AAA

This module concentrates on how to present treatment plans to patients which meet their aesthetic, functional and financial expectations. The 4 “P’s” of marketing are discussed in depth, along with the concept of a “loss leader” and importance of a practice website and a specific Invisalign web presence.

 Day 2.    Clinical Workshop I

Participants are divided into groups of four and work together to assess all patients from each dentist. The critical skills required for achieving predictable outcomes are focused upon in this clinical setting and allows each dentist the rare opportunity to treat six cases in a clinical setting immediately.

Case assessment, impression taking, bite registrations and photographic records are mastered by the end of this unique, in vivo workshop.
