One Day Update Courses 2012

“An essential examination of an eclectic admixture
of topics critical to clinical success in todays’ rapidly
changing and highly competitive environment”.

Module 1. Tooth Coloured Indirect Materials

As patient demand for tooth coloured and metal free restorations increases, the need for practitioners to remain abreast of the most efficacious and clinically proven materials has never been so significant. Reinforced Composite, Lithium Disilicate and Zirconia based restorations are discussed in tandem with an examination of the tried and tested ceramo-metal crowns, veneered versus monolithic and how milling can effect marginal integrity and strength.

Module 2. Minimal Invasive Aesthetic Dentistry

With ageing of Australia’s population now well established, the need for aesthetic treatment plans to be “enamel–neutral and green” is paramount. This module examines how to integrate an alignment phase into aesthetic dentistry using Invisalign to avoid significant reduction of enamel in lieu of ceramic veneers.

The Penn Composite stent is discussed which showcases the new generation injectable composite veneer technique, along with the use of zirconia reinforced composite onlays as a consideration as an alternative to full coverage when appropriate.

Module 3. Intra-oral scanners and Digital work flow. Are we there yet ?

This module examines the introduction of intra-oral scanners and their features, benefits and whether they are right for your practice.

The most popular commercial brands are featured, along with a financial analysis to demonstrate why these scanners will improve your efficiency it correctly implemented and utilised.

An up to date discussion regarding intra-oral photography and how to maximise this powerful clinical modality is also offered.

Module 4. The Hover Splint

This remarkable new TMD and tension headache splint system is about to be commercially released (early 2012) and will revolutionise the way dentists treat both conditions. Developed by Dr Penn in association with Professor Jack Gerschman and Dr Michael Stubbs ( specialists in Oral Medicine), the device features a complex series of anatomically shaped magnets embedded in occlusal splints, which allows the mandible to levitate on a magnetic field.

Module 5. Quality Assurance in Dentistry

Dr Penn discusses how globalisation has impacted on most facets of dentistry and why the importance of utilising and verifying quality materials and manufacturers in every aspect of clinical treatment is so critical. Recording this information on patient files is also examined along with ISO accreditation and the use of the Identalloy system for material verification.

Module 6. “Overcontouring your Margins”:

Competitive Advantage in Dentistry : With four new dental schools and a plethora of overseas dentists pointing towards an oversupply of dental professionals, the need to be able to distinguish yourself and your practice from the rest of the “pack” has never been so significant. Clinical proficiency is simply not enough to achieve competitive advantage and this module discusses a basket of unique selling points relating to you, your practice and your overall approach to inter-personal communication and marketing.
