Dr. Guido van den Berg Practitioner in Implant dentistry Amsterdam The Netherlands
Lecture title: Simple, implant-retained solutions for the resorbed mandible
Simple, implant-retained solutions for the resorbed mandible. Guido T. van den Berg, D.D.S.
After the health insurance authorities in the Netherlands had decided to reimburse simple, removable implant-retained overdentures in the nineties of the last century the amount of patients treated has been increased dramatically. Due to this the overall experience has increased which has led to very favourable results, both from clinical as from a patient satisfaction perspective. In this presentation an overview of the simple treatment protocol is presented together with an overview of the scientific publications which support the present protocols.
Guido T. van den Berg, D.D.S.
Guido has finished his dental education at University of Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1986. He has worked as clinician from 1986-1994. In 1995 he has started to work for NobelPharma (now Nobel Biocare) as a product manager.
As a product manager and later as marketing manager he was strongly involved in the educational programs of Nobel Biocare. In 2006 en 2008 he was the clinical responsible for the live surgery programs during the Benelux World Tour. Dr Daniel Edelhoff Associate Professor, Department of Prosthodontics and Dental Material Sciences The Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich Germany
Lecture title: New approaches in the rehabilitation of complex cases including CAD/CAM-technology
New approaches in the rehabilitation of complex cases including CAD/CAM-technology Daniel Edelhoff C.D.T., Dr. Med. Dent., Ph.D.
Objectives Learn how to manage the economization of tooth structure removal according to diagnostic template, Identify the key-elements of team communication to create predictable results in VDO change, Understand material selection criteria for adequate use of CAD/CAM-fabricated bonded long-term provisional restorations, Discover the esthetic/functional potential and limitations of recently introduced restorative materials.
Sever tooth wear is perceived as a challenge for the esthetic and functional restoration of complex cases. New restorative options were established by the introduction of lithium disilicate. Dentists have to manage the question when to start an adequate treatment modality. The lecture will present a restorative approach following a strict protocol in team communication between dentist and dental technician to economize tooth structure removal according to material requirements. Innovative CAD/CAM-fabricated high-density polymers offer new treatment options for long-term provisional restorations as a test drive of the final restoration
The lecture will provide treatment concepts utilizing also CAD/CAM-technology as an important component for rehabilitation.

Dr. Joerd van der Meer Honorary Research Associate Eastman Dental Institute University College of London England
Lecture title: Digital workflows in dentistry
Digital workflows in dentistry Joerd van der Meer
Dentistry is on the verge of a wonderful digital revolution. Due to the new technologies that have emerged over the last few years we are now able to perform diagnostics, treatment planning and the production of prosthetic restorative solutions with the aid of the computer. Although still in its infancy, these digital technologies enable us to produce high precision results that are of constant quality.
At the beginning of all of the digital workflows is the capturing of data. The better the data input, the higher the quality of the end-result. This means that for a digital impression made with an intra-oral scanner it is imperative that we choose a scanner that will deliver the best quality possible as this will enable us to produce the best restorations for our patients. And as there are many intra-oral scanners available, all claiming to have advantages over the other, it is of the utmost importance that we gain insight in the quality of these scanners.
In this lecture an overview will be given of the different technologies behind the scanners and the quality difference of the digital models that has been found in the studies. Potential clinical applications of the intra-oral scanners are presented and at the end of the lecture the future developments are discussed and a glimpse of the future is revealed.
Joerd van der Meer
Joerd van der Meer graduated in 1989 at the dental school at the university of Groningen. During his study he also followed several hardware and software courses (electronics, Pascal, C++). The final years of his study he worked at the physiology department where he built computer simulation models of neural networks with prof.dr. E.Otten.
After fulfilling his military obligation as a naval officer, he worked 4 years at a centre for oral implantology as a trainee. In 1995 he started as part-time associate at the centre for special dental care in Assen. From 1996-2002 he worked, also part-time, as staff member at the dental school of Groningen. The rest of the working week he filled as researcher and trainee at the Endodontic department of the university of Nijmegen, which he continued until 2002.
Since 2002 he has joined the Medical Centre and University Hospital of Groningen where he specialized in 3D technology like the cone-beam CT , 3D scanners and 3D preoperative surgical planning. He hopes to finish his PhD on “3D digital workflows” in 2012. Since 2009 he has been Honorary Research Associate at the University College of London Eastman Dental Institute.
